Spring 2009 Bow & Arrow Press Introduction to Printing & Book Arts

The Adams Bow & Arrow Press, in conjunction with the Office for the Arts, will be offering a ten-week course, Introduction to Printing & Book Arts. The course will focus on the principles of classical typography and the production of limited-edition books and ephemera via hand-set metal type and the hand-operated letterpress, and will be offered in both the beginning and advanced levels. Students will examine fine printing and rare books, and the typography and lettering that is all around us. The course will be taught by Michael Russem of the Kat Ran Press (www.katranpress.com), this year's Visiting Artist at the Adams Bow & Arrow Press.

Classes will meet in the Adams Bow & Arrow Press once a week, on Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening. Two levels will be offered, 'Beginning', for those with little or no printing experience, and 'Advanced'.

Please note that space is limited and undergraduate students will have priority. There will be registration fee of $50 for undergraduates, $75 for graduates, and $100 for Harvard affiliates.

APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN CLOSED FOR THE SPRING 2009 CLASS SERIES

about the press

The Bow & Arrow Press is a student-run letterpress in the basement of Adams House, B entryway. All are welcome to come and try their hand on our presses. All options are open: books and poetry, ephemera, cards, treatists & tracts, monographs, and invitations. To that end, the press holds weekly Open Press Nights, a time to shake it out, visit, print, and dig through our collection of type, plates, and other bric-a-brac. For the 2008-2009 academic year, Open Press is on Wednesday, from 7 to 10pm. If you are interested in press goings-on, please subscribe to our low-traffic email list. The sign-up page is here.
